Paintings by Dorothy Mason
The purpose of my painting is to connect people to nature; the visual images entice them to contemplate the beauty before them. Water lilies and lotus flowers have captured my interest and imagination since the first time I saw them. These delicate flowers evoke a sense of calm and are a microcosm of the world – land surrounded by water, reflecting the sky.
Painting watercolors is liquid and ethereal; they seem to take on a life of their own. Water by nature moves in its’ own way, this makes watercolors very tenuous and hard to control. Using lyrical lines to direct the eye in the painting, movement and calm are created.
The addition of oil paint adds a tactile element to the paintings by creating texture and form, whereas the layering and blending of paint adds depth to the image and a deeper expression of light bringing the entire painting to life.
